Rider Rating
Arguably the best trail in Ohio. It is 25 miles of pure, flowing single-track. Ride the entire length if you have the lungs, ride a portion of it if you don't.
Different approaches to Mohican. Do the original 8 miles out and back. To shorten this use the Short Loop Turn Off which is after Mile 4 and just before the yellow old roadbed. Then the campground road or the last section to mile 24 back to the car. If adding milage after the original 16 miles, ride up the Class A campground road to the Class A Bridge and up the Short Loop Turnoff to regain the trail. Or from the Class A Bridge do the fun last section to Mile 24. For a downhill start go from Mile 8 to Mile 0 and back. From Rt 97 drive down to the Covered Bridge and up to the Group Camping Area. Make a sharp right before the Group Camping Area, go past the state forest facility to park at a picnic area. In the camping area there is a short trail thru the woods to Mile 8. This short trail is located accurately on the map.--The black state park roads can be used to shorten the 24 mile loop. From the Group Camping Area at Mile 8, blast down the road to the Covered Bridge. Make sure no cars go before you. The Hemlock Trail from the Covered Bridge to the Class A Bridge is a Hiking only trail. Also you can take the park road from the Covered Bridge up to Rt 97 and Trail Head #2. This can be depressing. From Trail Head #2 take the park road past the Lookout Tower to Rt.97 back to trail Head #1. Past Mile 19 take the road back . Rt 97 is a state route.-- Start at Trail Head #2. Another high starting point. Could be shortened by using the Short Loop Cut Off from the Class A Bridge or the park roads after Mile 8.
