|
|
Welcome to the Cincinnati Off Road Alliance Mountain Bike Race Series FAQ thread.
Dates
April 26th Tower Park- Ft. Thomas, KY
June 28th East Fork State Park- Batavia, OH
August 9th Waverly- Louisville, KY
August 23rd Caesar Creek State Park- Harvesyburg, OH
September 13th England Idlewild- Burlington, KY
The CORA Series objectives are:
1) Promote Cincinnati area mountain bike racing participation.
2) Promote camaraderie within the local mountain bike community.
3) Promote trail advocacy awareness.
4) And most importantly, promote fun and health.
The CORA Series is composed of existing races already established in and around the Cincinnati area. All races are individually promoted and governed. All questions regarding individual races should be forwarded to the director of the race in question. There is no need to declare your intention to race in the series. All registered racers for each race will automatically be included in the CORA series. If we list your name on the CORA series point totals and for some reason you do not wish to participate (have your name on the list), you may contact the series director, Chad Irey, at coraseries@gmail.com and he will be happy to remove your name from the register
Introducing CORA Series Pay dirt:
What is pay dirt?
Pay dirt is our way of rewarding you for making a contribution to the development and maintenance of our trail systems. Simply volunteer. To get involved, just contact a trail leader who is heading up a local trail work day and once you have completed the day's work they will sign off on the form that will be posted and available on the CORA Website.
Racers must complete at least 2 OFFICIAL CORA trail days to be eligible for CORA SERIES Pay Dirt, earning a maximum of
10 hrs. You can start earning pay dirt points starting January 1st of current race year.
- Expert riders will receive 10 points per hour. Maximum 100 points
- Sport riders will receive 8 points per hour. Maximum 80 points
- Beginner riders will receive 6 points per hour. Maximum 60 points
Official form must be signed by the trail leader for each official trail day.
Official form must be turned in to one of the CORA SERIES officials (Chad Irey or Butch Farrell) by the beginning of the
England-Idlewild race. September 13th, 2009
All CORA trail work days are eligible.
To print the forms please visit the CORA website at: http://joinomba.org/cora

• You will be scored in the class for which you register. If a particular race within the series offers a class that you wish to race and the CORA series does not track points for the specific class, do not be discouraged. As long as the class you wish to race completes the same amount of laps as the class you are competing in the CORA series, we will score you as if you were racing in the class. Example, the Caesar Creek race may offer a Clydesdale class. The CORA series does not offer a Clydesdale Class. If you wish to compete in the Clydesdale class for this race, we will score you with the class that completes the same amount of laps. Usually Clydesdales complete the same amount of laps as the sport class, so we will keep your score in the sport class. We will take your finish time, compare it to the finish times of the sport class and insert your name after the name of the next fastest racer in the sport class. Should the Clydesdale race a lap less or more than the CORA series class you are participating in, then you will need to race in a class that is completing the same amount of laps.
Beginner Class: enter this class if you are new to the sport or this is your first Mountain Bike race. This is an introductory class used to “get your feet wet.” Beginner races are approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Sport Class: is the middle class. You will find more advanced riders than the beginner class and the pace will be faster. Sport races are approximately 1.5 hours. The sport class should be used to hone in your skills and work on your race strategy. We highly encourage racers to use the sport class as an intermediate stop on their way to the highest class.
Pro/Expert Class: The highest class. You will find the best regional talent in this class. The pace will be even faster than the sport class and race duration is approximately 1:45:00 to 2:15:00.
Participation rules:
• You must race in Four out of the Five races to be eligible for a Series Title.
• Initial class placement will be based on your registration for your first race. If you plan to change your class prior to a race
you must notify the series coordinator and register for the race in your new class. If you fail to race in your new class all
points will be forfeited for that race.
• None of the CORA rules or points will disqualify or count for the series the race is actually run under. So, for example, if
you have decided to move to expert in the CORA points series and at the last minute decide to race sport and you win the
OMBC race in sport, your standing with OMBC will not be affected, only the CORA points will be lost.
• Prizes are plaques for winners of individual classes

| Sweet flyer! Really dig the graphic design. Just a heads up that E/I Trails are NOT in Florence, KY. They're in Burlington - 41005 zip. Also, Waverly is in Louisville, about 100 miles west of Union. |

I was hoping there was some mountain bike trail I didn't know about hidden here in Union. _________________ http://www.crossresults.com/?n=racers&sn=r&rID=3331 |

I was there that year. That race, that year was my first race ever. I will never forget the starting cannon and the chicken heads.

Should be a great day Sunday for racing!
Marty, I saw your thing about who was top dawg in '96. Wasn't me, that was my first year in expert - I needed a high-power telescope to see the front of the field cause that was my spanking year. Phil Noble, Kevin Caldwell, and Chris Hitchcock were winning most of the races that year. DiDiMau was a fun race - freaking hard as hell. Miss it. _________________ http://cincinnati.biowheels.com/ |

Question about paydirt:
Is it like extra credit? Where it will simply be added to your score? Or will it be treated like a race, so you'd get that score as well as you three best races?
If the latter, can one only race in three, plus get paydirt and still be eligible for the CORA series? I ask because I'm not sure if I'll make it down to waverly or not, but I'm scared that if I DNF due to mechanical issues at either Ceasers or EI there won't be another race afterwards to make up for it.
Thanks! |

You must complete four out of five races to be eligible for end of series placement.
Pay dirt as extra credit is probably a good way to look at it.

Yours truly raced the very 1'st Di Di Mau Classic back in 1989.
This annual mud fest is best described as a mass poaching event.
